Teacher trainees in the 47 Colleges of Education should expect payment of allowances for the 2024/2025 academic year. This payment will cover the first semester to the second semester, meaning that every outstanding payment for the 2024/2025 academic year shall be paid by the end of this month or early August.
The government, who had a plan during the 2024 election campaign to cancel teacher trainees’ allowances, has shown a massive interest in maintaining the payment. As a result, teacher trainees will soon be on payroll to receive payment monthly as public workers do.
This indicates that teacher trainees should expect full payment for the last semester (12 weeks equivalent to 3 months) and payment for months spent on campus in the second semester about 1 month (from 16th June, 2025 to 16th July, 2025).
Approximately, by the end of July, teacher trainees should expect payment of about 4 to 5 months arrears into their accounts by the end of July or early August, 2025.
This development will also help teacher trainees to cater for themselves during this one-hot-meal new normal. With the assurance of receiving their allowances, teacher trainees can now focus on their studies and training without worrying about financial constraints.
