WENDA’s 2025 Agenda: Combating Corruption and Championing a New District for Bekwai

In 2025, the Western North Development Association (WENDA) has set forth an ambitious agenda anchored on two pillars: eradicating corruption among public figures and advocating for the creation of a new district for Bekwai. This visionary agenda reflects WENDA’s dedicated commitment to transparency, equitable development and the responsible stewardship of public resources.

Fighting Corruption for True Progress

Corruption remains the single greatest obstacle to sustainable development in the Western North Region and Ghana as a whole. When public funds are misappropriated or distributed unfairly, the region’s potential for growth is stifled and the needs of ordinary citizens are neglected. WENDA’s 2025 agenda is uncompromising in its call for accountability. We demand that all public officials, irrespective of rank or political affiliation, uphold the highest standards of integrity, honesty, and service to the people.

Our anti-corruption drive includes monitoring the allocation and utilization of public funds, advocating for greater transparency in governmental processes, and empowering citizens to demand answers from their leaders. We believe that by rooting out corruption, we can redirect valuable resources towards education, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic empowerment for all communities within the region.

A New District for Bekwai: The Case for Equitable Development

Beyond the fight against corruption, WENDA’s agenda recognizes the urgent need for administrative reforms to ensure fair and balanced development. The recent allocation of funds by Parliament to Members of Parliament (MPs) illustrates a glaring challenge: resource distribution is often insufficient for larger municipalities. For instance, the entire Bibiani Municipality, one of the largest in the region, received only a single allocation. This is grossly inadequate to meet the diverse and growing needs of its people.

If Bekwai were granted district status, it would have qualified for its own separate allocation, effectively doubling the financial resources available to the area. The benefits of creating a new district for Bekwai are manifold:

Increased Funding and Resources: As a new district, Bekwai would directly receive government allocations for development projects, leading to more schools, healthcare facilities, roads, and social amenities.

Tailored Development Initiatives: Local leaders and administrators would be better positioned to identify and address the unique needs of Bekwai, ensuring that resources are deployed where they are most needed.

Enhanced Representation: Bekwai’s voice would be amplified at both the regional and national levels, promoting more participatory governance and inclusive decision-making.

Job Creation and Economic Growth: The establishment of a new district would create administrative, technical, and support jobs, stimulating local economies and providing opportunities for youth employment.

Empowered Local Communities: With district status comes increased autonomy, enabling the people of Bekwai to actively participate in shaping their own development agenda.

A Call to Action.

WENDA believes that now is the time for bold action. The creation of a new district for Bekwai is not just an administrative adjustment; it is a crucial step towards ensuring equity, justice, and progress for all. When resources are allocated fairly, and corruption is vigorously fought, every citizen benefits, and the entire region can move forward.

We call on policymakers, traditional leaders, civil society organizations, and all citizens to join us in this campaign. Let us work together to demand accountability, champion the creation of the Bekwai District, and build a brighter, more prosperous future for the Western North Region. The time for transformative change is now.
