Breaking News: WAEC Grants Final Extension for 2026 Private WASSCE Registration

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced a crucial extension for the registration of private candidates wishing to sit the 2026 First Series of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

In a public notice released, the Council declared that the registration deadline, which had previously lapsed, has now been extended to Friday, 9th January 2026. This decision provides a final window of opportunity for prospective candidates who encountered challenges completing their registration within the earlier stipulated period.

However, the Council has specified a key condition for this final phase. All registration must be completed in-person at designated WAEC offices. Eligible candidates are directed to visit either the main WAEC Office at Ridge, Accra, or their respective regional WAEC branch offices. The notice explicitly states that online registration portals will not be available during this extension period.

“All prospective candidates concerned are therefore advised to take full advantage of this opportunity,” the statement from the Head of National Office urged.

The Council accompanied the announcement with a firm and clear warning, indicating that this is an absolute final chance. The notice emphatically states: “Note: There will be no further extension of the registration period.” This underscores the urgency for all pending candidates to regularize their status immediately.

Prospective candidates are advised to proceed promptly to the specified WAEC offices with all required documentation and fees to secure their registration before the January 9, 2026 deadline. Further inquiries can be made directly at the WAEC national or branch offices.
