Ghana Education Service Denies "Secret Recruitment" and Sale of Appointment Letters

Accra, Ghana – December 12, 2025 – The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a strong rebuttal against widespread allegations circulating on social and traditional media that it is conducting a covert recruitment exercise where teaching appointments are being sold for sums as high as GHS 25,000.

In a press release dated 12th December 2025 and signed by Mr. Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations, the Service labeled the claims as "false" and not reflective of the facts.

The controversy stems from a viral video, reportedly aired on platforms including Adom FM, which alleged an ongoing 'secret' recruitment drive within the GES, facilitated by bribery.

Clarification on Recent Appointment Letters

Management clarified that the issuance of some new appointment letters is related to an ongoing process, not a new secret recruitment. Following an extension of financial clearance in October 2025, the GES resumed onboarding eligible applicants from the 2024 recruitment cycle.

A key part of this process, according to the release, involved replacing fraudulent appointment letters that were previously in circulation.

"Those who were recruited on fake letters had to be issued new appointment letters since they could not be onboarded with the fake letters. These new letters were issued free of charge," the statement explained.

A Call for Vigilance and Reporting

The GES has urged the public to report any instances of solicitation for money in exchange for recruitment.

"Therefore, anybody who has evidence, or who has been approached to pay any amount of money should report the person requesting the money to the security agencies," the release stated emphatically.

Reaffirmation of Transparent Process

Reiterating its commitment to open and merit-based hiring, the GES assured that its established recruitment procedures remain unchanged. The service stated that any future large-scale recruitment would be publicly announced.

"When financial clearance is obtained for the main recruitment, an official announcement will be made to invite all qualified candidates to apply. The recruitment process is open, transparent, and free of charge," the release concluded.

The statement serves as a direct effort by the GES to quell public concern and maintain the integrity of its human resource processes amidst damaging allegations.
