TTAG National President Engages PRINCOF For Teacher Trainees To Receive Full Monthly Allowance of ¢400.00 And Feed Themselves

The president of the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana has taken a proactive step by organizing a poll to decide whether teacher trainees should receive their full monthly allowances of 400 cedis to feed themselves or continue receiving on-campus meals. The result was overwhelmingly in favor of the latter, with 90% of the students voting to receive their full allowances. This decision reflects the growing need for better support systems for teacher trainees, who have long faced challenges with the quality and quantity of meals provided by their colleges.

Over the years, teacher trainees have struggled with inadequate meal services, citing reasons such as rising dollar rates, insufficient feeding grants, and delays in government payments.

Despite these challenges, many trainees have opted to rely on on-campus meals rather than take on the financial burden of feeding themselves. However, the recent poll has shifted the focus toward a more sustainable solution—receiving full allowances to manage their own meals.

Hon. Divine, TTAG National President

The president of the association has now written to PRINCOF to advocate for the amendment of policies that would allow teacher trainees to receive their full 400 cedis monthly.

This move is a positive step toward addressing the long-standing issues and ensuring that trainees are supported in their academic journey. With increased advocacy and awareness, teacher trainees can look forward to a more favorable future, where their needs are better met and their experiences improved.
