National Service Update For All Final Year Students For 2026/2027 Service Year

‎The National Service Program (NSP) is a program aimed at promoting national development by mobilizing and deploying Ghanaian citizens. The program was initiated with a prayer by the former SRC President of St Francis College of Education, Hohoe. The dignitaries present at the event included the Vlota Regional Director, R.M.I.S, R.I Auditor, I.T Supporter, and District Manager.

Legal and Constitutional Framework

‎The Volta Regional Director delivered a talk on the Legal and Constitutional Framework, which included the 1973-NRC, 1980- ACT 426, and 2024 - ACT 1119. The reason for the review of the program was that individuals aged 18 and above are required to serve in the national service for one year. This is a vision and mission aimed at national development.

‎The objectives of the NSP are to include national values and civic responsibility in service personnels for the promotion of national development, instill a sense of attachment, love, and unity among the participants. The target group for the program is Ghanaian citizens aged 18 and above, with a sound mind and tertiary education.

Duration for National Service and Deployment Criteria

‎The coverage of the program is 12 calendar months, starting from September to July, with a terminal date in August. Participants will be paid for their service. The criteria for deployment include the national program, organization philosophy, sector ministry priority program, skills and relevance of personnel training, requests from user agencies, and any other fields prescribed by the Board. Study leave and health conditions are also considered in the deployment process.

‎Exemptions and deferrals are available for individuals who are 40 years and above, those who can prove ill health, approved post-graduate studies, exam resit or subject trailing, and other specified conditions.

Offences

‎Offences under ACT 1119 include evasion, desertion, self-posting, absenteeism, and lobbying. Welfare provisions are also available for NSPs, including automatic membership in NASPA, registration for NHIS, accident coverage on official duties, and government-approved funeral grants in the event of death.

Navigating the NSS Registration Process: A Step-by-Step Guide

‎The National Service Scheme (NSS) registration process in Ghana is a crucial step for individuals who wish to contribute to the development of the country while gaining valuable work experience. This article aims to provide a comprehensive guide on how to navigate the NSS registration process, highlighting the key communication channels, website, registration requirements, and payment methods.

Communication Channels

‎To begin with, it is essential to understand the communication channels available for the NSS registration process.

‎ The immediate supervisor, head of department, metro/district managers, regional director, and executive director are all involved in the process. These individuals play a vital role in ensuring that the registration process runs smoothly and efficiently.

Registration for National Service

‎For those who prefer to register online, the main website for the NSS is www.nss.gov.gh. The main portal for registration is http://smart hub.nss.gov.gh, while the support link is support.nss.gov.gh.

‎It is important to note that the registration process requires your Ghana card number and date of birth. However, problems may arise if there is a mismatch between the name on your Ghana card and the name submitted by the school, or if there is a mismatch in the date of birth. In such cases, it is recommended to contact the support link for assistance.

‎Once the card details are confirmed, the system will send an OTP (one-time password) to your phone number and email. The last two digits of your pincode must end with your year of national service. The amount for registration is Ghc 40.00 through ADB bank and Ghc 41.00 through Momo.

‎After completing the registration, you will be asked to take a live picture of yourself for verification purposes. This helps to avoid ghost name applications. If you are using a desktop without a camera, the NSS will grant a scan bar to scan instead of taking a picture.

‎It is important to note that there are three choices in terms of regions: Greater Accra, Ashanti, and Eastern Region. These regions have a high number of supplies, so it is advisable to be mindful of these regions when choosing your preferred region.

Payment Mode

‎Finally, payment is done now through the Ghana Pay account. After completing the payment, you will print the confirmation and send it to the district office.

‎In conclusion, the NSS registration process in Ghana is a straightforward process that requires careful attention to detail. By following the communication channels, using the official website, and adhering to the registration requirements and payment methods, individuals can successfully complete the registration process and begin their journey in the National Service Scheme.
