The Newly Constituted NEC Addresses Teacher Trainees One Hot Meal and Delay Academic Results

Date: 24TH JUNE, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

POST-HANDOVER ENGAGEMENTS AND STRATEGIC ROADMAP FOR TEACHER TRAINEES

The National Secretariat of the Teacher Trainees' Association of Ghana (TTAG) extends warm greetings to all Teacher Trainees across the country. We express our deepest appreciation to all trainees in the forty-seven (47) public Colleges of Education for your immense cooperation and active participation in the recently held Leadership Transition and Handing Over Ceremony.

Following our official investiture, the newly constituted National Executive Council (NEC) convened its inaugural meeting. Subsequently, the National Executive Officers (NEO), under the leadership of H.E. Divine Nanija, National President, paid a courtesy call on the Chairperson of the Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) Prof. Samuel Awinkene Atintono, together with Dr. Addae Samuel Boateng, PRINCOF's General Secretary and Dr. Mrs. Phyllis Agyeman Nyarko the Former Treasurer of PRINCOF on Monday, 23rd June 2025. This high-level engagement focused on two critical concerns affecting Teacher Trainees nationwide. Kindly take note of the following updates:

1. The One Hot Meal Policy: The feeding situation in our colleges remains a major concern. The Association recognizes the dissatisfaction expressed by all Teacher Trainees over the one hot meal taken in the public colleges of education. During our engagement with PRINCOF, it was noted that the GHC8.00 daily feeding grant is insufficient to provide three quality meals a day. As a result, a proposal was made to offer one nutritionally sufficient hot meal daily. Going forward, we assure all trainees that we will engage other key stakeholders, including the local TTAG, to find lasting and improved solutions to this challenge.

2. Delayed Academic Results: The persistent delays in results from affiliate universities continue to impede progression, including Licensure registration and processing of academic transcript. The Divine-led administration at its first National Executive Council meeting had formed a five-member fact-finding committee to compile data on the affected colleges affiliated to University of Development Studies (UDS), University of Ghana (UG), University of Education, Winneba (UEW) and Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training & Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED). Also, TTAG has engaged PRINCOF candidly on this matter, urging swift redress and accountability. We are committed to following up until tangible change is achieved.

3. Engagement with Students Loan Trust Fund: In a separate engagement held yesterday with the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF), it was disclosed that the new initiative to provide financial resources from the Student Loan Trust Fund under the "No-fees-stress" policy will soon be officially launched in public colleges of education.

This policy is aimed at easing the financial burden of First Year Students, particularly with regards to fee payments. We hereby entreat all First Year Students in public Colleges of Education to take full advantage of this opportunity. Be assured of our steadfast commitment to your welfare.

The National Secretariat is fully aware of the trust reposed in us and remains committed to championing the interests of all Teacher Trainees. Our strategic engagements are intended not only to respond to immediate concerns but to lay the groundwork for long-term reform and advocacy. Together, let us continue to advance with unity, vision, and purpose.

Building a formidable TTAG front, Teacher Trainees at Heart!

TTAG, We mean well!

Thank you.
