CETAG Suspends Four-Month Strike After Government Releases Funds

The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has officially called off its strike action, directing members to return to the classroom effective Monday, 16th February 2026.

The decision, announced in a memorandum dated 14th February 2026, brings an end to industrial action that commenced on 24th November 2025. According to the statement signed by the National Council, the suspension follows the government's release of funds to settle three specific outstanding entitlements owed to members.

The funds released will facilitate the payment of:

· All Year-Round Work Compensation

· 2023/2024 Book and Research Allowance Arrears

· 2022 Research Top-Up Allowance for staff of Akrokeri College of Education

The National Council, after an emergency meeting held between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, described the development as "a significant step towards addressing our longstanding concerns." The unanimous decision reflects the Council's acknowledgment of progress made by the government in addressing the financial demands of teacher educators across the country's colleges of education.

However, the Association noted that not all matters have been fully resolved. In the memorandum, CETAG confirmed that two additional issues remain outstanding and are currently before the National Labour Commission (NLC) for adjudication. The Council expressed confidence in the NLC's ability to expedite action on these pending matters.

"In view of the above progress and in the spirit of good faith, we respectfully appeal to all members to resume academic activities and return to the lecture halls on Monday, 16th Februar

The National Council took the opportunity to express its appreciation to members for their "solidarity, patience, and unwavering support" throughout the duration of the strike.

The suspension comes as a relief to students and stakeholders in the education sector, who have faced disruptions to the academic calendar since the strike began late last year. With the directive to resume teaching activities, normalcy is expected to return to the various colleges of education effective Monday.
