Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) New Reforms: Will Final Year Students Write GTLE Exam This Year?

The Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) is a crucial step for prospective teachers in Ghana. Recently, there have been changes to the mode of writing the GTLE, which has caused some confusion among students. In this article, we will analyze the new arrangements and understand their implications for students.

Firstly, it is important to note that the GTLE has not been cancelled. However, the practice of writing the GTLE months after completion will be discontinued by August 30, 2025. From that date, students will be required to write the GTLE immediately after completing their program or as part of their final examination.

This change will primarily affect students currently in their final year of study in Colleges of Education (CoEs). These students are due to complete their programs by September 18, 2025. The new arrangement ensures that they are tested on their most recent knowledge and skills, which is a fair and accurate representation of their readiness to enter the teaching profession.

For students scheduled to write the GTLE from July 18-20, 2025, this change does not affect them. They will continue to write the exam as planned.

In conclusion, the changes to the GTLE are designed to ensure that students are tested on their most recent knowledge and skills. While it may cause some inconvenience for students, it ultimately serves the purpose of preparing them for the teaching profession in the best way possible. As students, it is important to adapt to these changes and make the necessary preparations to ensure success in the GTLE.
