Students from 22 Tertiary Institutions will not Receive their National Service PIN Codes for the 2025/2026 Service

In recent news, the National Service Authority (NSA) in Ghana has announced that 3,597 students from 22 tertiary institutions will not receive their National Service PIN codes for the 2025/2026 service year due to accreditation issues. These institutions are not recognized by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC). This decision has left many students in a state of uncertainty and concern, as it directly affects their ability to fulfill their national service obligations.

Affected Institutions

The affected institutions include Abbeam Institute of Technology, Lakeside University College, IPMC College of Technology, Radford University College, School of Hygiene, Korle-Bu, Ghana Baptist University College, Ghana Christian University College, Institute of Business Management and Journalism, Martin Luther Health Training School, Multimedia Institute of Ghana, and other institutions listed in the NSA statement. These institutions have been directed by the NSA to regularize their accreditation status with GTEC within 30 days to avoid disenfranchising their graduates. Graduates from these institutions will not be mobilized for national service unless official evidence is provided confirming their accreditation.

In addition to the affected institutions, there are also 908 private applicants, including Ghanaian students who studied abroad and those who deferred or defaulted in previous years, who are awaiting final verification before their PIN codes are released. These applicants are also advised to pay GH¢40 at any ADB Bank Ltd branch or GH¢41 via MTN Mobile Money to activate their PIN codes.

The registration for the national service opens on June 17, 2025, and closes on July 1, 2025. This means that students who are affected by the accreditation issues will have to find alternative arrangements to fulfill their national service obligations. This could be a significant challenge for those who rely on the national service as a means of gaining practical experience and building their resumes.

The decision by the NSA to withhold PIN codes from students at unaccredited institutions has caused significant disruption and uncertainty for many students in Ghana. It is crucial that these institutions work quickly to resolve their accreditation issues with GTEC to ensure that their graduates can continue to fulfill their national service obligations.

In the meantime, affected students should explore alternative options and seek guidance from their respective institutions and the NSA to navigate this challenging situation.
