National Service Allowances Set for Increment

In a recent announcement, Director-General Felix Gyamfi has assured that there will be an increase in national service allowances for the upcoming service year. This decision was made following a series of meetings with the Finance Ministry, which has opened a window for the inclusion of these increased allowances in the national budget.

Gyamfi expressed confidence that the new cohorts of national service personnel will likely receive these increased allowances. This announcement was made during a Pre-Service Orientation held in Kumasi ahead of the upcoming service year.

The National Service Authority has released PIN codes for 132,393 prospective national service personnel, a figure that is lower than the numbers realized in the last three years. For the coming national service year, the number of personnel expected to be enrolled is pegged at 132,393, which is a 26% decrease compared to the figures from the previous three years.

Compared to the figures from the 2022/2023 national service year, which was the highest over the past three years, a 36% reduction has been realized. Additionally, about 3,597 submissions from twenty-two institutions were not processed as the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission describes the institutions as unaccredited.

The National Service Authority (NSA) has implemented stricter validation protocols and increased transparency to eliminate inflated or fraudulent submissions. Director-General Felix Gyamfi believes that the reduced enrolment figures will help the government save costs and improve remuneration for personnel to be enrolled.

He further explained that with the reduction in enrolment figures, the government can save a significant amount of money, which can be used to improve the remuneration for the personnel. The service is also encouraging Small and Medium Scale Enterprises to absorb service personnel to drive the interest of the youth in the sector.

In conclusion, the increase in national service allowances for the upcoming service year is a positive development that will benefit the national service personnel. With the implementation of stricter validation protocols and increased transparency, the National Service Authority is ensuring that the service remains fair and transparent for all involved.
