Volta Regional Health Directorate Driver Arrested Over Suspected Narcotic Drugs in Official Vehicle

The Volta Regional Health Directorate has confirmed the arrest of one of its drivers, Mr. Godsway Kwaku Dogbey, for the alleged unlawful possession or control of narcotic drugs.

The arrest, which occurred on Friday, January 23, 2026, followed a police operation that intercepted an official Directorate vehicle, registration number GV 2460–14, reportedly laden with substances suspected to be narcotics.

In an official press release issued on Saturday, the Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Emmanuel Atsu Dodor, stated that the Directorate’s Transport Unit was alerted about the driver's detention at the Ho Regional Police Headquarters. Management promptly dispatched a team to verify and follow up on the report.

“The incident was confirmed by the Police, and the driver is currently in police custody assisting with investigations,” the release confirmed.

While the Ghana Police Service continues its criminal investigations, the Health Directorate has announced parallel internal measures. According to the statement, processes have begun to constitute a Committee of Enquiry to independently investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Furthermore, the Directorate acknowledged gaps in its vehicle monitoring systems, stating, “measures are being put in place to strengthen monitoring and tracking of all official vehicles to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.”

The Directorate emphasized its commitment to maintaining high standards of integrity and professionalism. Dr. Dodor reiterated that the institution remains dedicated to accountability in its service delivery, even as it deals with the fallout from this incident.

The case has drawn significant public attention after details circulated online, prompting the Directorate’s official clarification. The public awaits further updates from both the police investigation and the Directorate’s internal committee.
